Myopia is becoming much more common in children at younger ages than ever before. Many doctors and researchers believe that increased screen time combined with reduced outdoor time is to blame for this sudden increase. Undiagnosed myopia can lead to difficulties in school as well as extracurricular activities. However, the most concerning problem is the increased risk of eye diseases associated with myopia throughout a person’s life.
Scleral lenses are large gas permeable contact lenses that are custom designed and computer lathed for each individual patient. These medical devices require proper evaluation and are prescribed by a licensed and skilled eye care practitioner.
Ortho-K contact lenses are made out of a special gas permeable material and are custom made to fit each patient. The lenses are worn overnight and the lens gently reshapes the front surface of the eye, the cornea, while the patient is sleeping. In the morning, you can remove the lenses and still see clearly throughout the day without the use of daytime glasses or contact lenses.
Dry eye occurs when a person doesn't have enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye. Tears reduce eye infections, wash away foreign matter, and keep the eye’s surface smooth and clear. People with dry eyes either do not produce enough tears or their tears are of poor quality.
